Micah @ 1 Week

Micah is one week old today. I forget how fast time goes with a newborn...I'm already halfway through my "maternity leave". I wonder if I will actually go back to class next Wednesday. It's going to be so easy to skip to stay home with my baby!

Isaiah is doing wonderful with his brother. He does such a good job being gentle with him (around him, we need to work on) and gives Micah lots of hugs and kisses. Isaiah did purposefully elbow Micah in the head once, but even then he was gentle about it (LOL!). It was more of a pushing boundaries thing and since he promptly got a timeout we haven't had any more trouble with that. Listening to US is a different matter, but that's pretty much to be expected.

We went to Micah's checkup yesterday. Little stinker was already up 6oz from his discharge weight! Three more ounces and he will be at his birth weight (apparently something they like babies to reach by 2 weeks). He's as good an eater as his big brother was! I'm also relieved that the pediatrician is serious about the lack of antibiotic given before he was born (ie none) given that I was strep positive with Isaiah. I know that the bacteria comes and goes and apparently my water breaking *just* before Micah was born is a good thing, but we just don't know if he was exposed. The doctor isn't necessarily worried about it, but she wants us to seriously keep a close eye on him the next few weeks and bring him in right away if anything seems off. With everyone else kind of glossing over it, it makes me feel better that she discussed it with us.

Sleeping has gone relatively well so far. He wakes up on his own somewhere between every 2-4 hours to eat, usually right around 3 hours. So I'm not terribly tired, but I do have trouble waking up. Once I get moving, things are good. He does sometimes eat more often during the day, but that's much easier to deal with.

Gotta go...he's waking up!
