Conversations with Isaiah 03.093

Isaiah and I were discussing travel times in the car this morning:

Isaiah: The Pumpkin Patch was a long way away.
Me: Really?
Isaiah: Yeah. Like fifty years!
Me: Well then how long does it take to get to Nana and Papa's? (An ~2 hour drive)
Isaiah: FOURTEEN DAYS!

Conversations with Isaiah 03.092

After his bath, Isaiah spiked up his hair and said "What do I look like? Famous?"

Micah @ 7 Months

Can you believe it? This past month has just FLOWN by! Probably partially because the 6 month checkup was really at 6 ½ months, so that threw me off. I can’t believe we’re at 7 months already…and it sounds so much older than 6 months for some reason. So what’s new in the past month?

Micah is getting better and standing on his own. I don’t think he’s realized what he’s doing, so he doesn’t initiate it…but if we stand him in front of the coffee table with something interesting on top of it he will stand there for a while messing with it. Balance is not good yet, but that will come. I’m really impressed with how long he can stand there without any help (other than keeping him upright).

His first tooth has FINALLY started to actually break through the gums. I think I’ve been expecting this tooth for 3 months! I think the other bottom one isn’t far behind. Poor Isaiah got excited when I said the tooth finally started poking through. He wanted to see his brother’s tooth! But it’s so small still and Micah does NOT like me trying to see it….there’s no way Isaiah would have been able to see anything. We had to tell him to wait until it got a bit bigger and easier to see.

We are still having some spitting up issues. It always seems to be in the evening (or occasionally very first thing in the morning) around dinner time. I mentioned it to the doctor and she mentioned trying anti-gas drops twice a day to see if that helps. I guess when babies start eating fruits and veggies the fiber that they aren’t used to digesting can make them gassy and then they spit up. I think the stuff helps, but since we occasionally forget to give them to him he still spits up. I think the quantity coming up has definitely decreased. I may try giving his belly a break and mixing cereal with juice. The cereal and breastmilk seems too bland for him, so maybe that bit of flavor will get him to eat the cereal and also help with the spitting up.

Oh, and I recently realized Micah really seems to like feeding himself. He will eat if I hold up the spoon, but he always reaches for it. The other night, I put food on the spoon and let him take it and he just stuck it in his mouth! His aim is sometimes off, and he will bang the food OFF the spoon sometimes, but he usually gets most of it where it’s supposed to go. This also takes the pressure off me to keep feeding him (and putting off my dinner) because he will slowly suck all the food off the spoon then chew it for a bit. I just have to keep an eye on him so he doesn’t toss it on the ground for the dogs to lick off.

Ready to Read

Another instance that makes me think Isaiah is a genius (or at least is actually learning at school). I was helping him sound out/spell 'Kahn' and after he got 'K' I asked if he knew what letter made the 'ah' sound. He didn't answer that, but said "ah, ah....like fall!" He's comparing sounds that aren't necessarily at the beginning of a word now!

Conversations with Isaiah 03.091

Me: Isaiah! Were you playing in my desk?
Isaiah: No!
Me: How did the drawer get opened?
Isaiah: I don't know! Maybe Micah did it!

Conversations with Isaiah 03.090

Isaiah just asked me if I had head phones. When I asked why he wanted them he said "So I don't have to hear any of Micah's noises."

For the record, he complained about him blowing raspberries, NOT crying.

Isaiah's Firsts

Isaiah has a day full of firsts today! First field trip, first ride on a school bus, and first time at a pumpkin patch! Stinky Catholic school rules mean I can't go along to see ANY of it :( I just hope he remembers well enough to tell me some of the fun he had.

Conversations with Isaiah 03.089

Today Isaiah informed me that zombies eat brains. I don't know how he knows this, but he seemed to find it an amusing thing to tell me.

Conversations with Isaiah 03.088

Whenever Micah starts crying his "hurt" cry, Isaiah's first reaction is to yell "I didn't do ANYthing!"

Spider!

Poor Isaiah just had a good sized spider on him. TOTALLY freaked out...not that I blame him a bit, but its hard to find a spider when your kid is flailing around trying to kick it off. Unfortunately, my first thought was "don't kick it on ME!"

Isaiah is Getting Big!

How is it Isaiah can year boys' sizes already? Yes, the shirts are a bit big, but he can wear them! He is getting SO big!

Ready To Read

In the car on the way to school this morning Isaiah started trying to sound out and spell "car"!! I was SO surprised! Granted, he was doing "car...k-k-k....k!" and I tried to explain that 'C' can be tricky. But I'm so proud of him for trying! I asked him the sound of several other letters and he got them all!!

(Wow, I had a lot of exclamation points in that update. I'm so excited that Isaiah is getting closer to reading)
