Isaiah is already playing cars with his brother. He is rolling them down my belly and into my lap. Baby doesn't seem interested, though...or maybe he's asleep.

Brotherly Love 02
Out of the blue this morning Isaiah said "Thank you, Mommy" when I asked him for what he said "Thank you for [the baby]". Awwwww! He really does seem to be excited about it. When we go to Target I will occasionally let him "pick out" something for his brother. Stuff we need like pacifiers or something to wear. I think maybe it helps that he gets to help out like that. He also seems to really like feeling the baby kicking.
We'll see if he changes his mind when there's a baby in the house taking all the attention! :)

I don't think we will go with that.

Mommy Thoughts
Pregnancy brain is:
*Walking up to your professor and saying "I have a question about X. Uhhhh......"
*Washing your hair and face, then getting out of the shower without cleaning the other 95% of yourself.
*Leaving your phone in plain sight in the classroom and walking away from it.
*Getting confused by plane vs plain and sight vs site when writing an update.
*Putting on your coat, grabbing your purse, opening the front door...and realizing you don't have shoes on. Ahhhh.....good times.

If pediatricians say letting kids watch tv before they are 2 slows language development, what would Isaiah be doing if we had kept him from tv? Maybe giving speeches? Last night he said "damnit, mommy, shut your mouth". That's pretty advanced stuff for a 2 1/2 year old ;)

Today Isaiah randomly decided he wanted it to snow. When I asked him why he said "I want to throw a snowball at you". So I told him it would be a long time before it snowed he said "Will you help me make a snowball? I want to throw it at you!"
Its going to be a long winter.

Rocks Up Noses

Every night, at some point in our walk Isaiah asks to be carried, usually we tell him he has to walk because he wanted to go on the walk. Tonight, Jeremy told Isaiah he couldn't carry him because he was carrying the spare leash. Isaiah walked a few more steps, took the leash from Jeremy and gave it to me, then went back and again asked Jeremy to carry him.
What a little problem solver! Once we got done cracking up, Jeremy picked Isaiah up and carried him for a while.

Done With Diapers (For Now)
Isaiah recently decided he HATES diapers. Hates. Seriously. So last night we let him sleep without a diaper on. And he stayed DRY! Sure, it's not been the first night he's been dry....his diapers have been dry several times a week. Really, he can hold it, it's just a matter of a) getting him to potty RIGHT before bed and b) getting him to potty as soon as he gets up. It's SO exciting, though. I'm really hoping I'm done buying diapers (until next March).

We (I) started talking about the baby with Isaiah pretty much as soon as I found out. He will kiss my belly and give the baby hugs...it's adorable, but always something I tell him to do.
The other day he came up to me, put one arm around my shoulders, the other hand on my belly and said "I love you guys!"

Isaiah Milestones
In other news...Isaiah astounds me with his sentences lately. We've actually been having small conversations AND he's starting to come up things that aren't given options. Last night I asked what he wanted for dinner and he said mac n'cheese so I said ok, I'd make that and he said NO. Ugh. So I started naming off his options and he threw out hot dogs...NOT something I'd even THOUGHT of! Maybe it's a little thing, but I'm so used to him choosing from what we mention that coming up with his own thing is crazy.
He's started "reading" more. I know it's just memorization at this point, but it's SO exciting. He did almost an entire page the other day...I just read the first two words and figured he'd finish the sentence like we normally do. Nope, he read the whole gosh darn page. :)
Oh, and potty training is going pretty darn well. He had no accidents three times last week (including naptime and pooping IN THE POTTY) and yesterday as well. We totally bribe him with stuff and today he gets an Iron Man tattoo if he doesn't have any accidents. I usually don't like bribing him before hand because those seem to be days that he has LOTS of trouble...almost like I jinx the poor kid.
The pacifier is gone. I didn't want to push it when we are still working on potty training, but one day Ruff got a hold of it and chewed it up pretty bad. The nipple was still fine, but it was SO messed up on that side that I know it would have hurt him. He's doing ok without it. He still asks for it every night and it's taking him longer to fall asleep but he's not thrown a full blown fit for it (only for wanting to sleep in our bed...????).

Fears of a 2 Year Old
Isaiah's started getting to the age where things scare him. Did I mention when we went to the zoo and the monkeys terrified him? This is the boy that LOVES anything monkey...shirts, toys, books. I guess just not the real ones, even the little spider monkeys freaked him out. It's random stuff, too. A bear on Mickey Mouse Clubhouse (he LOVES that show), spiders. One night he was talking about "Scary Guy Gumbo" and I have NO idea what he meant! I'm wondering if he's also scared of the dark now. He woke up THREE times the other night crying, but went right back to sleep when one of us went to check on him. Last night he insisted on going to be with a flashlight on (but under the covers...?). He even brought it with him when he climbed in bed with us. I woke up with it under my back. Ow!
But the fears seem totally random. We watched The Princess and the Frog the other night (the new one from a couple years ago) and it was Disney, but I worried the bad guy would scare him. Nope. Didn't have any trouble with that.
We did get him a new night light, so we'll see if that helps tonight. I also have tried convincing him that Ruff will chase away scary/bad guys. And he's started telling me that, so maybe he believes him. We did try to get Ruff to eat a spider the other night. Dumb dog didn't see it but Isaiah thinks Ruff scared it off so I think maybe that helped him believe in the dog's protection a bit more.

Dumb Puppy
Ruff was outside and suddenly starting crying like he was DYING. I went running out and first saw Irvin growling and Ruff a couple feet away CAUGHT IN THE LEGS of one of our folding outside chairs.
My guess is he tried to chase the cat under the chair and...being too big...got caught.
OHMYGOSH one of the funniest things I've EVER seen.

Ready to Read
Isaiah is so amazing. He's started reading books with us. I realize he's just reciting from memory, but it's still exciting to have him finish a sentence that you've started. He doesn't do it every book, but 2 or 3 so far. The ones he's hear 5 million times. Actually, we got him some new ones last Saturday ("Little Critter" books by Mercer Mayer...he LOVES them!) and I ready one of them to him 3 or 4 times that night and another few times the next morning and he was ALREADY "helping" me read it!!
I really hope he loves reading as much as I do!

New Family Member
Meet Ruff. Yes, Isaiah named him. He is a shared birthday present...Mine and Isaiah's. I have NO idea what he is, we are thinking some sort of Border Collie mix. He's definitely smart as a whip, We've had him 2 weeks and he's already reliably sitting, will roll over, shake, down, and touch. Potty training has been WAY easier than I expected - I do clean up accidents but he follows Walter outside and will go on his own. He also walked pretty well on a leash - the one time we've been able to get out (also with Walter).
Isaiah LOVES his doggy!

Isaiah @ 2 Years
Stats
31 lbs, 2 oz (82%)
35" (69%)
Isaiah is SUCH an amazing little boy. Has SO much to say, and is getting grammar is surprising ways. We're talking about 6 or 7 word sentences that are correct except for some pronunciation. It's so funny to hear him so "No, get down Doofus" when Ruff is jumping on him (I call the puppy Doofus all the time). He's also getting better about sharing - we went to check out a new daycare yesterday and he picked something up that another kid had dropped...and gave it back to her! And he LOVES to read. Only certain books over and over and over and over, but that's ok. I'm pretty sure I have Cat in the Hat memorized by now. I am a bit disappointed that he wants nothing to do with the new books I got him the other day: Green Eggs and Ham and One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. I thought he was excited about Go Dog Go but he just wanted to carry it around and talk about the dogs driving the cars.
